Another Storm?
This storm was one of the wilder ones we’ve had this winter. It may not look like much in this picture but just look at the wind pattern on the water. It was honkin’! I had to stick my camera out through a narrow opening to take this shot. Did I mention it was raining heavily? No? Well, it was.
This is what the wind did to our tarp system, on both sides. Notice the piece of reinforced visquene hanging down the side. So much for THAT cover. The seagulls had compromised it earlier in the year. They like to stand up there and poke holes in it. Seriously. And when there is someone baiting up for a longline trip (for halibut or black cod) our cover is littered with seagulls. They get used to being there and between diving for bait, they peck at the cover. Very irritating. We can even hear them doing it while we’re down inside the boat. We run up and bang at their feet to get them to stop but they just come back. So for now, the contents on the back deck are covered with a large, newer, blue tarp.
The tide was so high there was hardly any piling showing. And notice how level the ramps are. I’ve never seen the tide so high here. This is what the effects of global warming will look like (as the ice melts and oceans rise).
