Petroglyphs in Wrangell, Alaska
Petroglyph Beach is a must-see attraction in isolated Wrangell. I was fortunate enough to make my second and third visit on this recent trip to Wrangell. No one knows for sure when these petroglyphs were created. They are located near the entrance to the Stikine River, a well-used trade route by these early inhabitants of Southeast Alaska. Some of the designs use similar symbols to what you might see in totems or other native carvings created in more recent times. My understanding is that there aren't even any Tlingit stories about these creations. A mystery.
