Winter 2008 - Ice
Sitka has been blessed with cold, clear weather for a while now - don’t know for sure how long - but long enough to thoroughly freeze downtown’s Swan Lake and create sheets of ice in Eliason Harbor that spread all the way to the beach. The Harbor Department boat has been out breaking it up when necessary.

The skaters have been out in force this weekend. A local equipment supply company has been providing lights at night, skate sales have been brisk, including at the White Elephant Shop. Everyone, all shapes, sizes and species enjoy this infrequent Sitka winter sport.
